Recipe against moisture, draughts and cold
Although 85 % of all bitumen is used in road applications, there are other applications where bitumen’s properties bring value.
In these industrial applications it is used to insulate against moisture, heat, sound and vibrations among other things. Some of the applications use oxidised bitumen, which has high heat resistance.
These are properties required by Hunton Fiber for their bitumen-impregnated wood fibre panels. The company, based north of Oslo, is one of the Nordic region’s leading producers of wall panels and other wood fibre-based products for the construction industry.
The addition of Nybit I 142 in Hunton’s panels keeps the wall sealed so that moisture and draughts do not penetrate the insulation and cool down the wall. The impregnation process also makes the panels resistant to mould, rot and pests.
