Ring road around Umeå, Sweden
Umeå, the biggest city in the northern part of Sweden, has for many years had problems with poor air quality due to heavy traffic passing through central parts of the city. To meet environmental quality standards, and also to improve road safety and accessibility, a new, 30-kilometre ring road is currently being built around the city.
The project is divided into different contracts, and responsible for the final stage – the Western Link over the Ume River – are NCC and Peab. It is expected that the new ring road will be ready for use during 2022.
Nynas has supplied significant volumes of bitumen to the project, including Nynas 70/100, 100/150 and 160/220 to Peab as well as the PMBs Nypol 67 and Nypol 88 and viscosity-grade bitumen Nynas V12000 to NCC.
