A strong Nynas contribution at CIGRE 2026

At this year's CIGRE Session, Nynas will have a particularly strong presence with six posters, committee involvement and customer engagement. It is an important opportunity to exchange knowledge with utilities, transformer manufacturers, researchers and asset owners from around the world.

Nynas is contributing to six technical posters across Study Committees D1 (Materials & Emerging Test Techniques) and A2 (Power Transformers & Reactors) at the CIGRE Paris Session in August cover topics including transformer sustainability, circularity, biodegradability, diagnostics, thermal performance and low-temperature operation.

“Much of the work has been carried out in collaboration with utilities, transformer manufacturers, universities and research institutes, highlighting the strong partnerships we have built across the industry,” says Professor Thomas Norrby, Nynas Technical Manager – Lubricants &  Electrical Industry.

In addition to the six posters, Nynas representatives will participate in technical discussions, working groups and customer meetings throughout the session, as well as support activities at the Nynas exhibition stand.

  • Ageing behaviour of insulating paper in a near carbon-neutral re-refined transformer oil.
  • Biodegradability testing of transformer insulating liquids and interpretation of OECD 301 methodologies for the electrical industry.
  • The influence of hotspot conditions on dissolved gas generation in novel insulating liquids.
  • The use of bio-based hydrocarbon insulating oils to improve transformer thermal performance.
  • Thermal-hydraulic modelling of transformers and the impact of fluid properties on cooling performance.
  • Cold-start behaviour of oil-filled transformers operating under low ambient temperature conditions.
