NyEx: Securing future technical expertise

At Nynas we have the NyEx program, which is a trainee program open to newly graduated chemical and mechanical engineers.  Since 2017, the Nynäshamn refinery has run this program to attract and prepare young talent. Each year, we aim to welcome 4-6 students, providing them with hands-on experience and insights into the industry. The fifth program launched in September 2024, and we’re excited to continue shaping future engineers.

• Program duration: Approximately 10 months with the goal of offering a long-term career at Nynas.
• Ambition: The purpose of the trainee program is to provide a broad understanding of Nynas through rotation and introduction, while giving participants the chance to experience working in different parts of Manufacturing.

Collaborations with Universities

We believe in maintaining strong connections with academia to stay at the forefront of research and to inspire the engineers of tomorrow.

• Lectures and presentations: For example, a Nynas expert and lecturer at KTH Royal Institute of Technology has held presentations for chemical engineering students over the past two years, which have been very well-received. Read more about it here: Nynas experts lecture at KTH. We also collaborate with the Chemical Engineering program at KTH, welcoming second-year students to our site for an annual study visit.
• Industrial Doctoral opportunities: We support industrial doctoral candidates, fostering cutting-edge research collaborations.
• Student Engagement: We attend nearby university fairs annually to connect with students and showcase career opportunities at Nynas. We also participate in Pre-University programs through Berzelius Days, where we engage with students before they enter university.
• These collaborations ensure our employees stay updated on the latest research while inspiring students to consider a future with Nynas.

Thesis work opportunities

Are you a science or engineering graduate and interested in completing your Thesis with Nynas? We regularly offer thesis work opportunities that allow students to contribute to real-world projects and gain invaluable industry experience.

Local partnerships and summer work

• Campus Nynäshamn: Locally, we partner with Campus Nynäshamn, which offers vocational training programs. We provide internship opportunities for students enrolled in the Process Operators program and the Automation technician program. • Summer workers: Every year, we offer a few summer job opportunities to students. Our Quality Control Lab and Bitumen Lab at the Nynäshamn manufacturing site typically have one or two students working during the summer. These positions are often filled by students who have completed their first year in a Chemical Engineering program.
