Successful delivery of NYTRO® Lyra X to Poland's largest offshore wind project

Nynas recently completed a major milestone in collaboration with GE Vernova, delivering nearly 700 metric tonnes of Lyra X transformer oil for the first stage of Poland’s largest offshore wind energy project.

The Baltica Offshore Wind Farm is set to be the largest in the Polish Baltic Sea and one of the most extensive globally. GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions builds the infrastructure necessary to transfer power into the onshore grid from the Baltica 2 project – one of the two stages of the initiative.

This first stage included the energisation of 80 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, totalling 1.2 GW of installed power. It marks the beginning of an ambitious eight-stage development aiming for 6 GW of offshore wind capacity, with a total investment of €60 billion.

“The cooperation between Nynas and GE Vernova began in early 2024, when they decided to use NYTRO Lyra X as insulating fluid in the transformers,” says Mateusz Kopecki, Sales Manager, Nynas Poland. “The first step was supporting them through the logistics and regulatory framework in Poland, particularly regarding excise duties during site fills.”

The transformers, manufactured in Turkey, were transported by sea and then moved to the offshore site using specialised heavy-lift transport. In total, four large units (120 mt of oil each) and four smaller ones (50 mt each) were filled using 680 mt of Lyra X, delivered by 28 Nynas trucks.

“Transformer filling was conducted by our trusted partner Ecol, using their advanced Ecofluid system with a filling efficiency of 2 mt/hour. The entire process was executed within 45 days, with smooth coordination and no delays,” adds Mateusz Kopecki.

As the fill approached its conclusion, GE Vernova Poland invited the Nynas team to visit the site.

“Equipped with full safety gear, we had the opportunity to walk through the installation and capture the impressive scale of the project firsthand. Following the successful completion, we received a warm thank-you call from GE Vernova for the seamless delivery and professional execution.”

This project not only highlights Nynas’ capability to support large-scale renewable initiatives, but also reinforces our commitment to reliable service, technical excellence, and strong industry partnerships.

“We are now setting our sights on phase two of this massive project, scheduled for 2026, aiming to supply 1,200 mt for the next set of transformers,” concludes Mateusz Kopecki.
