Clean shore power in Nynäshamn

The Nynäshamn production site recently completed an upgrade to its shore power infrastructure, allowing vessels to connect to electricity during loading operations.

The project was carried out in close collaboration with the owners of MT Thun Resource, which transports Nynas specialty products, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and improving conditions both onboard and ashore.

MT Thun Resource is fitted with a battery pack that charges via the shore power connection while berthed. This setup enables the vessel to switch off its auxiliary engines, which normally run on fossil fuels, during cargo operations.

This development marks a significant step toward more sustainable port operations. By cutting emissions and minimising engine noise, the system benefits both the local environment and working conditions for crew and port personnel.
